Singapore’s second Raffles hotel set to open on Sentosa island in 2022
Raffles Hotel Singapore, located on Beach Road, is an iconic landmark for the country. First opened in 1887, the colonial-style hotel has withstood the test of time. In 2017, the hotel shut its doors in order to embark on a full-scale renovation, and will reopen later this year to much anticipation.
Accor, in partnership with Royal Group, has now announced a second Raffles hotel in Singapore, with the launch of Raffles Sentosa Resort & Spa. Featuring 61 villas, the resort will be Singapore’s first all-villa hotel. The hotel will be built on prime land currently owned by Royal Group, set in over 100,000 sq m of sprawling tropical gardens with views over the South China Sea.
Promising the ultimate in seclusion and comfort, each villa comes with its own private pool and terrace area. Villa types range from one bedroom (measuring 260 sq m) to four bedrooms (measuring 450 sq m), accommodating to couples, honeymooners and families alike. Facilities include a bar, restaurants, fitness centre, celebrations room and two meeting rooms.
The resort is designed by global design studio Yabu Pushelberg. As opposed to the historic Raffles hotel in the city, the Raffles Sentosa Resort & Spa will feature a more modern look and feel. Building will start at the end of 2019, with doors likely to open in 2022.
“We are proud to announce a second Raffles hotel in the country of its birth,” said Michael Issenberg, Chairman and CEO of Accor Asia Pacific. “The Raffles brand is the highest expression of luxurious hospitality in Singapore and we are excited to offer well-travelled connoisseurs a second option to indulge in the famously discreet and attentive Raffles service that has provided an oasis for travellers since 1887.”
The announcement comes as the Raffles brand is undergoing a major renaissance, following the recent openings of Raffles Maldives Meradhoo and Raffles Shenzhen China. The invigorated pipeline also includes Raffles Udaipur, Raffles Jaipur and Raffles Bali in Asia Pacific. Upcoming global openings include Raffles London and Raffles Boston Back Bay Hotel & Residences.
